“Throwing everything at the wall” - desperate times indeed. And although nothing seems to be sticking, thankfully, this scraping the barrel rubbish doesn’t half lower the tone of the ‘debate’ even further, if that were possible
Very valid points made in an interesting, entertaining and well-written article. Yes the campaign doesn't appear to be sticking but how interesting that those running the it think the electorate stupid enough to be persuaded by crap like that.
Also on the Gordon brown footnote, seeing as he’d spent a decade scheming and plotting to move from Court Number One to Centre Court it seems a particularly inapt analogy
About the list in footnote 2: I’d be surprised if Bobson Dognutt is a Labour candidate, indeed I’d be surprised if in this world there is anyone with the name of Bobson Dognutt. What awful advertisements we’ve seen in this campaign, maybe we should check to see if somebody has a bet on this ‘Let’s see if we can get 10/1 on getting the name Bobson Dognutt into an advert’
I believe Bobson Dugnutt may have been slipped in there by Tom, to see whether we were paying attention, as I haven't been able to spot it on my brief analysis of the linked video (and a quick Google implies that it's a video game-related meme).
One thing I did notice about the list of names is that the names appear to be in alphabetical order up to a certain point, before becoming random. It gives the impression that the alphabetized list was drawn up in an orderly fashion, whilst everything after it was haphazardly added as part of some quick brainstorming session.
I like that Tom has not explained the origin of the image in footnote 2, which has led to the confusion over Bobson Dugnutt.
It's a list of player names from a Japanese Baseball computer game from 1994. The Japanese team didn't have rights to use real players, so they invented American sounding names. The image of the names has become a meme in recent years.
"The fact that the Conservatives are unable to find a photo of Rayner where she doesn’t look either exceptionally cool or exceptionally nice is quite funny." Indeed. One of her many qualities is how photogenic she is.
I ask this question honestly but with all this seemingly to me at least justified snark at how terrible the Tory campaign has been and how ‘nobody could possibly be being convinced by this’ kind of attitude and reaction to it, I have to ask ‘please tell me there wasn’t a similar reaction to the Leave Campaigns tactics and messaging in 2016 was there?’

Great piece
Absolutely brilliant. Taking the ball, running with it, and scoring at will. Exceeding your xG.

Another excellent article - have really enjoyed these posts during the election and hope there’s more to come afterwards. Thanks Tom!

Now I look again I see it’s Bobson Dugnutt, silly me, should have gone to Specsavers!

Dear old Bobson Dugnutt, I was wondering how he was getting on
